Dryness and Pain in the Same Room After Caesarean Section, What’s Going On?

After giving birth through Caesarean section, if the mother and father can safely pass the postpartum period, their sex life can still continue smoothly without much impact. However, some women choose Caesarean section to prevent vaginal injury to prepare for future sexual life. After giving birth, the wound needs to be fully healed before having sex with the husband. So why is sex life after Caesarean section particularly painful? Why is it so dry and painful in the same room after Caesarean section?

Restoring postpartum sexual life is a major issue for couples, but many encounter problems. Pain is a common issue during postpartum sex after Caesarean section. The couple should proceed gently and choose appropriate positions to prevent pain.

After two months of recovery from the surgery, their sexual function can be restored. The couple must proceed gently and carefully in the same room after Caesarean section to prevent any damage to the wound. They should change positions to avoid reinterring the wound, and the husband must stop immediately if the wife feels discomfort. Generally, after Caesarean section, there is no postpartum bleeding, and the wound will heal completely before having sex.

However, women may experience vaginal dryness after giving birth, which can lead to discomfort during sex for the couple. Therefore, lubricating condoms containing lubricants, spermicides, or glycerin can be used to increase vaginal moisture. Just relax and do not worry too much. You will gradually adjust to it.

During lactation, the high metabolic rate of prolactin in the body can suppress the normal endocrine function of the uterus and ovaries, resulting in insufficient estrogen in the vagina, decreased glandular metabolism, and pain and dryness during sex. Premature sex may cause inflammation of the cervix, endometrium, appendages, or hinder the healing of perineal and vaginal wounds, affecting the physical and mental health of the child after birth.

Common Problems Regarding Postpartum Sexual Life after Caesarean Section:

      1. During sex after Caesarean section, the posture should be gentle and appropriate. Sex should not be too frequent or strong to avoid tearing of the private parts.

      2. Due to the stretch or damage to the wound and surrounding nerves and tissues during the entire surgical process, numbness may occur for several months or even a year after surgery. This is normal and will gradually improve with time. If the husband experiences your numbness during sex and feels uncomfortable, you need to tell him to reduce contact with that area.

      3. If you practice exclusive breastfeeding after giving birth, your estrogen levels will be lower, and your vagina will have reduced lubrication during sex, leading to pain and discomfort. If you experience this problem, you can consider using lubricants instead of natural vaginal secretion for a smoother sex life.

      4. Don’t forget to use contraception during sex to prevent pregnancy. If you want to enjoy some time before getting pregnant again, the losses will be significant if the Caesarean section wound has not fully healed.
